JNV,Yanam is located near the village of Mettakur in Yanam, Union Territory of Pondichery surrounded by the beautiful and scenic Konaseema’. It is 26km from Kakinada and 36km from Amalapuram.
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is a huge tree of education extending its effervescent branches into 506 districts of the country, which breaks out into delicate blossoms of various activities at the beginning of the educational season, and on the blossoms of which, with the passing time kaleidoscopic colours of all round development skills are puffed to produce a good yield of the confident individuals by the end of the academic season.
In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986) Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs),one in each district, throughout the Country being administered by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), New Delhi . As such, one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been established in Yanam in 1987 in the temporary building in Yanam. Later Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti was allotted an area of 25 acres in near by mettakur village for constructing permanent buildings. The construction work was started in 1997 and the vidyalaya was shifted in to the permanent buildings in 2001. The Vidyalaya has initially intended for one section in each class up to X class only.Keeping in view of development in enrolment , the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has enhanced it in to a double section school.
(1) To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values,
awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly from rural areas.
(2) To ensure that the students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages.
(3) To promote national integration through migration of students from Hindi to non-Hindi speaking State and vise-versa.
(4) To serve in each district as focal point for quality school education in general through sharing of experience and facilities.
